Hastert - Cut and Run King

Hastert stepping down early is just another example of the GOP cuttin' and runnin' His BS of an excuse saying it will not inconvenience the voters and keep down expenses. WHAT!?!?! Put down the bong pipe Denny! You inconsiderate idiot. It is going inconvenience a hulluva lot of voters who now have to vote in TWO elections. And expenses being kept down? You Crack Addict!!! Who did consult for that load of cowpies?

According to Jack Cunnigham, Kane County Clerk, Hastert’s decision to step down from the 14th Congressional District seat will cost Clerk's office an extra $400,000 to $800,000 next year, Cunningham said. To the eight counties that fall partially or entirely in the district, the extra cost will be between $1.1 million and $2.2 million, not counting costs to municipalities that handle their own voting, Cunningham said.

Those costs – $400,000 per extra election in Kane County, $1.1 million per extra election in all eight counties – are only working numbers, and they are likely to change over the next few months, weeks or even days.

And according to Kane County Chronicle's Editor "Essentially, there will be two election processes occurring: One to fill the remainder of Hastert’s current term and one to elect a new representative in November. Truly conscientious individuals might end up casting votes four times because there will be two different primaries and two different elections."

This is saving money and not causing an inconvenience to the voters?? Hastert! You are the inconvenience to the voters! Just because you can't take the heat you are taking your toys and going home. Wuss!

So now Denny, you're going go to Wheaton College and become an economics fellow are ya? I think you need to go back to school first to learn how economics work then after that why don't you sneak in a few ethics classes while you are at it.

Obviously while spending most of your time covering up for buddies like Mark Foley you forgot how the district that elected you works!

Lake and Halsted - Update

"...I THOUGHT ABOUT STRONG ARMING A HO...A NOSEY WOMAN HAVING NO DAMN SENSE TRYING TO PUSH ME...THE STATES ATTORNEY TRYING TO GIVE A BROTHER THE SHAFT AGAIN - WITH A HALF-A-MIL FOR BAIL CAUSE I'M AFRICAN - ALL BECAUSE THIS WOMAN WAS HARASSIN' HIM..."
...LET ME TELL YOU DUDES WHAT I WOULD DO TO PROTECT THIS...
SHOOT AT YOU HATERS AND DARE YOU TO STEP TO US!""

Nice words right? Well they are the latest in scare tactics that the Chromium bar at Lake and Halsted in Chicago, is employing in the form of a pamphlet handed out Thanksgiving night to its patrons. Basically it is instructing its idiot bar goers to shoot the haters meaning Kathy Kozan and her neighbors that have trying for three years to shut this despicable place down. http://www.lakeandhalsted.com/

In my previous blog Grassroots: The People at the Common Level,I spoke of how courageous these folks were. By taking the matter into their hands when the aldermen, mayor and other powers to be in Chicago ignored them. But now they are getting blatent death threats - nice!

The promotor that prepared this inflammatory program is named Charlie Chase and if you care to let him know what you think of his stupid idiotic idea to promote a violent and ignorant nightclub you can contact him here - maxamillionproject@hotmail.com

Oh and of course there are the aldermen that can't seem to be able to protect their ward's community but then again, Alderman Walter Burnett at wburnett@aldermanburnett.com seems to not want to do anything disruptive at his "favorite" nightclub! Seems he has a few political fundraisers there and maybe a few dollars went into his political stockpile. Time will tell on that front. Money Talks people, the Bullshit keeps walkin' here in the Chi-Town!

And they said that Chicago was cleaning up its corruption. NOT!! I bet the Olympics Committee would be very interested in seeing how the CITY of Chicago handles these latest threats to their own citizens.

TOY RECALLS: Whats a Grandma to do?

I sucked at school but now I have an excuse. Because I played "Barbie kisses GI Joe", I was probably a victim of lead poisoning! Therefore the low grades! Yep, that the excuse for me now!

Christmas is looming up behind my back like a tornado whirling off in the distance and I have NO IDEA how to shop for my grandkids without risking their little lives!

Toy Companies are being accused of trying to kill our children with lead, magnets, GHB and all the new mystery poisons out there! I can't check CNN without hearing about the latest toy that is dipped in lead and stuck in our kids mouths! Yikes! Where does a grandmother turn to!!! Although, nothing too new here with Toy Recalls, remember Jarts?

Anyway, the latest toy recall that I noticed was Easy Bake Ovens.

Seems that there have been burns etc. Well of course a kid can burn her or his little fingers! Thats why it is "supervised" play. You wouldn't have your three yr old stir the soup on the stove so why would you leave a three yr old unsupervised with a 45 watt lightbulb?

And another shocker! Barbie! Good Ole Reliable Barbie!!

Seems to be that there are magnets that can be swallowed in the pooper scooper. A pooper scooper? Hey, the Barbie I KNEW would have had Midge clean up after her dog and what the hell is a little girl playing with a pooper scooper? But,what do I know!

So as I wake up bright and early to hit the stores, I check that I have my purse & wallet, I have popped back a few Aqua Dots instead my usual Xanax, I got the geiger counter to check for radiation, a paint scraper and CSI kit to check for lead and a pocket piece of steel so that I can check for magnets.

Oh Hell, for God Sakes get your kids these:

Top Ten Personal Rants, Raves and General Bitchy Peeves

10. When I am bitchy or pissed off don’t say I am menopausal or PMSing. Only I can give you that description of myself on any given rant.

9. Taxis or Cars that honk their horn 5 cars back as if the person first in line gives a flying crap what you think. Do you know that in Hawaii you can get a ticket for honking your horn. They think it is rude!

8. Taxis or Cars that come within inches of you while you are in a legal crosswalk with the WALK sign. As if you can make me move faster with your insipid threat? Go on hit me, I will just walk slower and get richer if you are stupid enough to merely tap me with your bumper.

7. Women in grocery stores that turn shopping into a competitive sport. Who says you have to only go down the aisles in a certain pattern? If I forget something I am damm well turning around – get over it!

On the same note, Blue Tooth Ear Piece Wearers; pre-cell phones days talking to yourself was just weird. Now we think you look plain stupid.

What Are We Doing to Our Boys!

What are we doing to our boys!!! We are creating a nation of scared, confused non-men!! Our society is so scared of the dangers lurking in every corner that we helicopter over our sons so much that this new generation is becoming non-confident, scared to touch and generally very, very wimpy! I have shaken more hands with young men that were raised by helicopter parents that personally, I have a stronger handshake then they do and feel I could hurt them – ewww! And when did men start calling a colorfully decorated room or an inanimate object “fun”? We live in a world of hyper-carefulness! What are we creating?

I raised three sons, for most of the time alone as a single mom. They were adventurous and predominately terrorized me, but they are strong men now! I have come in contact with many boys in past few years and after spending time with them, I just shake my head. The new breed of boys are afraid of everything. They don’t venture out away from the nest for fear of meeting Mr. Stranger-Danger! They don’t climb trees for fear of falling. They don’t ride their bikes for fear of falling off. They don’t concoct their little battles blowing up toy battleships in the garden pool for fear that someone would think they are dangerous! And they sure don’t hug each other or put the arm of comrade around their friends for fear they are turning into a pervert. God!! What did we do????

Now, I don’t suggest that we toughen up our little guys to the point of bullyness and I don’t suggest you teach them how shoot an arrow into their brother’s epiglottis (true story, ask my son Steve) or capture their brother and hog tie him to the bed (ummm. Josh??) but I suggest that we wise up. When was the last time any of us saw a gaggle of 8 years olds playing a non-supervised game of pickup baseball! Probably rarely because most of the are playing video games and don’t know how to invent play.

And the most disturbing trend is that in today’s society, grown-ups, especially men are being suspected, villianized and discriminated against because we all think every man with a child is a predator. In a blog that I felt hit the nail on the head is http://baconsrebellion.blogspot.com/2007/09/fear-of-men.html In this blog, the writer accurately portrays how we see men in today’s society. We are losing our “good” and “decent” male role models to the knee-jerk reaction of fear. And in turn we are creating men that are afraid because as parents we are afraid. And that in turn creates scared, non-confident boys!

When I was a child and young girl, I KNEW the difference between a good man and a icky one. I knew how to trust at least to the point I was safe. The unfortunate part of my era was that belief in what a child said was not always taken very seriously. But in today’s society we can blend the knowledge of the difference between the Stranger Danger and a Good Man because we can learn to communicate with our child.

We need to counteract the effects of male bashing by reaffirming our sons masculinity, teaching them good morals and being honest about who is a good role model and who is a bad person. I was lucky enough to have as single Mom strong male role models for my sons. Sure, I thought about predators out in the big, bad world, but I taught my sons to know the difference between good touch and bad, between good men and bad and I feel they grew up just fine.

And I let a little danger in their lives. I have recently been giving as a present to new moms a book called ‘The Dangerous Book for Boys’ by Hal Iggulden. In this book it teaches us not only simple tasks like how to make the greatest airplane in the world but how to treat women with consideration and to know the difference between good and evil.

Realize that there are good men out in today’s society and we need these good strong male role models or we will continue to create fear.

A Nation Of Fear - The Fear of Touch

Because of the cases of true perversed and scummy pedophiles running rampart, we are succeeding in creating a nation of fearful children. Don't touch them! Don't touch Me! There is a difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching.

In some cases, a hug from a friend is all some children can have because of a lack of love at home but because our schools are becoming overly sensitive to the child molestations by teachers and support staff, they now are OVERLY reacting to a simple hug between two kids. What do you think? Should the rules stay as they are or should they be amended to allow simple hugging.

Girl gets detention for hugging The Associated Press, Tues., Nov. 6, 2007

Illinois middle school bans public displays of affection; parents urge change

MASCOUTAH, Ill. - Two hugs equals two days of detention for 13-year-old Megan Coulter.
The eighth-grader was punished for violating a school policy banning public displays of affection when she hugged two friends Friday.

“I feel it is crazy,” said Megan, who was to serve her second detention Tuesday after classes at Mascoutah Middle School. “I was just giving them a hug goodbye for the weekend,” she said.
Megan’s mother, Melissa Coulter, said the embraces weren’t even real hugs — just an arm around the shoulder and slight squeeze.

“It’s hilarious to the point of ridicule,” Coulter said. “I’m still dumbfounded that she’s having to do this.”

District Superintendent Sam McGowen said that he thinks the penalty is fair and that administrators in the school east of St. Louis were following policy in the student handbook.
It states: “Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, reflects poor judgment, and brings discredit to the school and to the persons involved.”
Parents urge change in policy Coulter said she and her husband told their daughter to go ahead and serve her detentions because the only other option was a day of suspension for each skipped detention.

“We don’t agree with it, but I certainly don’t want her to get in more trouble,” Coulter said.
The couple plan to attend the next school board meeting to ask board members to consider rewording the policy or be more specific in what is considered a display of affection.
“I’m just hoping the school board will open their eyes and just realize that maybe they shouldn’t be punishing us for hugs,” Megan said.

Grassroots: The common people at a local level.

The word Grassroots is normally used in relation to political campaigns. But it also can be applied to the people at a local level that without the big money or political savvy can take up a cause, push it through and bring justice to their purpose.

http://www.lakeandhalsted.com/ did just that. According to their website, the story began in the summer of 2005, every weekend night at the closing hour 3:00am fighting among club goers escalated in the vicinity of the Lake & Halsted nightclubs especially Chromium NiteClub. The fighting, screaming, drug use, public peeing, property destruction escalated to such a fervor that neighbors and local business owners started to protest the lack of civility and safety in their neighborhood.

Saturday Nite's Alright For Fightin....... ummm so's Sunday!

The City of Chicago trying to appease the neighbors and to stem the violence started to station Police and Tactical Officers outside the Chromium Niteclub on Saturday night to Sunday when the most violent of street fighting occurred. Unfortunately, this was not enough. On the LakeandHalsted website you will see that even with the presence of Police, horrible fighting still occurred. That is when the neighborhood took action. That is when they became a Grassroots Organization determined to stem the violence, make the Chromium Niteclub owners responsible for their patrons and bring some semblance of peace back to their neighborhood where they worked and lived.

The neighbors took the usual course of action. They met with Aldermen, they filed petitions, they worked with law enforcement but it wasn’t until a lone woman started to film the violence from her Art Studio across from the club that officials started to wake up to the problems that this particular nightclub caused. This woman weathered threats to her property and even threats on her life but still she kept filming. And then the unthinkable happened. On August 19th a young man visiting the club, with family members for the first time, lost his life that night. He was shot 5 times in the back by some idiot clubgoer that took offense to this young man’s presence. This murder was done in plain sight of the Police stationed at the club.

On the website you can hear and see what the neighbors see, hear and witness: http://www.lakeandhalsted.com/

Now people started to notice; especially a local news station. Interviewing the brave artist that took up her camera, the terrors that this nightclub allowed were finally being taken seriously. On October 29th the Liquor Commission pulled the liquor license from the owner. It was pulled on a technicality and not because of the violence but I know the attention this story was given helped and was due to the bravery and courage of this Grassroots Organization.

The definition of Grassroots is “the common people”. There is nothing common about these heroes.
