Nice words right? Well they are the latest in scare tactics that the Chromium bar at Lake and Halsted in Chicago, is employing in the form of a pamphlet handed out Thanksgiving night to its patrons. Basically it is instructing its idiot bar goers to shoot the haters meaning Kathy Kozan and her neighbors that have trying for three years to shut this despicable place down. http://www.lakeandhalsted.com/
In my previous blog Grassroots: The People at the Common Level,I spoke of how courageous these folks were. By taking the matter into their hands when the aldermen, mayor and other powers to be in Chicago ignored them. But now they are getting blatent death threats - nice!

Oh and of course there are the aldermen that can't seem to be able to protect their ward's community but then again, Alderman Walter Burnett at wburnett@aldermanburnett.com seems to not want to do anything disruptive at his "favorite" nightclub! Seems he has a few political fundraisers there and maybe a few dollars went into his political stockpile. Time will tell on that front. Money Talks people, the Bullshit keeps walkin' here in the Chi-Town!
And they said that Chicago was cleaning up its corruption. NOT!! I bet the Olympics Committee would be very interested in seeing how the CITY of Chicago handles these latest threats to their own citizens.

Mini Update since last night. Dear Kathy said she is afraid of getting shot but she won't give up! Cheers to you Kathy! She brought the pamphlet to Area 12 police and they told her it was a form of assault and will be speaking with the promoter slash investor(????) tonight. Hmmmmm... What will be the backlash of that I wonder. More ignorance?
I washed the two video's and was left with fears of this type of thing going on where I live. I am sure it does, its just that I am not around such things.
Most nightclubs are more under control here or they are shut down.
There is definately some money being changed across hands here in Chicago. The saddest part of this is that it took three long years to have it brought to light. Chicago is full of corruption and it is the citizens of the city that suffer the most.
I've read the flyer from the lakeandhalsted.com site and don't think any assault is being direct towards Kathy, in fact it a song or rap. So don't Spend 2 much time looking into something thats nothing, no one is stupied enought too put out a flyer for an event with there company and personal name on it with threats, too many people are involved!!!
Sam, I too read the flyer and I see a corellation between the rap lyrics and what has happened on this street between the club and its neighbors. It seems more than just a coincidence that the lyrics speak of a confrontation with the States Att. and "nosy neighbor". Did he break any laws? No.
Was it a stupid thing to do considering the past problems they have had. Yes. It seems some people are just that stupid.

Lyrics in songs have a long history of inciting the populace to riot whether it is in a local or national venue, people are affected and spurned to action by the poet's verse.
Look at the rallying cries throughout history.
"War" what is it good for and "Hey Hey" LBJ how many kids you kill today were chanted repeatedly during the 1968 Convention riots where many protestors were seriously injured. Phil Ochs in 1960 inspired thousands to tear up their draft cards with his song "I'm Not Marching Anymore".
"You, telling me the things you're gonna do for me.

And taking it to the streets they did. The rallying cries to gather together and fight the oppressor is in the true sense a honorable thing to do in the poet's mind but in some instances it can lead to the general population to rise up and revolt.
Now if these lyrics in the Chromium program are only just a work of art why are they aimed towards a single person and embroiled in a situation that is already a hotbed of controversy and violence?
Just as my post was created to incite indignation, do you not think the writer of the program also wanted to incite a little backlash of his own?
The author knew what he was doing when he wrote those lyrics, knew that it ruffle some feathers and I sure he is quite the happy cat sitting back watching the show.

Real quick question Sam. In one of your paragraphs you said that there was not a threat toward me. Your quote "Then i would say ok you got me, but how are you going to say its a threat to you, when the subject is about something else!!!!" leads me to believe you think I am the one who feels threatened when that is not the case.
This blog and my previous blog, Grassroots, has always been about LakeandHalsted.com, primarily Kathy Kozan, fight to clean out her neighborhood's violence.
Ok. I re-read the pamphlet and LakeandHalsted.com is sprinkled throughout the verse. I wanted to see it through your eyes if I could be unbiased to read it as if it were a poetic verse. I still feel that the "implication" of threat is there.
I am glad that Mr. Chase has 99 problems and lakeandhalsted.com is not one of them but if that is the case then why even mention this website in his “song”. On page 4 he does talk about “strong armin' a ho” and the “nosey women” right after his 2 part monologue with a fictitious cop.
Now since Lakeandhalsted.com despite being a neighborhood watch group, the main target is the editor Kathy Kozan who spearheaded her grassroots organization to clean up the after hours violence and destruction to her and her neighbors property.
So even the mere mention of LakeandHalsted.com or the alliteration of the nosey woman would strongly point towards Lakeandhalsted.com which in turn falls at the editor, Kathy Kozan's feet.
Was the writer expressing free speech? Yes. Is this an offense to be arrested for? No. Does Kathy Kozan and her neighbors feel a threat, implied or otherwise? Yes. Does this implied threat come on the heels of many years of violence by patrons of this bar who repeatedly destroyed property belonging to Kathy and her neighbors? Yes
If many others besides Kathy Kozan, the Area 12 Police, or the neighbors of this establishment feel a certain threat that is "implied" in the guise of a "song" then how can you say that some idiot fueled up on booze is not going to take the "song" to heart and defend his watering hole from big bad Kathy Kozan?
And if it was just an advertisement for a great party as the writer states in page 3 of the program, then why did he not just leave it at that. Why fuel whatever neighborhood fires that had already been started by the violence that goes on week after week. It seems to me that this author is trying to be a tough, cool guy and would have remained so if he had just stuck to the fact that he wanted to put on a cool party. Instead, to me, he comes off as a thug hiding behind his “song’.
Hey Chooch! I'm with you all the way on this one. Of course I can't really imagine any other position. I think you are right and Sam might not be, not that it makes that much difference. I almost take it personally to see this kind of obvious corruption in the Windy City when you would like to be able to trust our elected authority. Something surely has gone awry.
Thanks John but I think we lost Sam. My husband told me to reread the program which I did actually 3 times over and my conclusion is the same. I do believe Mr. Sam may be connected in some way and is only defending his friend. Tonight's "party" at the Chromium Nightclub will a tesatament to the "control" that the owners have promised to exercise but I am also sure that this area will be crawling with police officers.
All is quiet on the Western Front. Saturday night's weather brought out a less lively crowd but it could also be the fact that Area 12Police strategically placed paddy wagons in front of the bar and in driveways of the residents.

Actually ShadowBar lodged their own complaints against Chromium. Their security and valet had a few terrorizing momemts in the past. I think if anything the 2 remaining nightclubs will listen and learn on this one. The owners of nightclubs, bars, etc are ultimately the ones responsible for their patron's behaviour. There was probably some really great people that worked at Chromium but it only takes a few jerks to ruin it for everyone.
